Studying Abroad with a Scholarship –University of Tokaj Students Gain International Experience
New cultures, inspiring academic experiences, international friendships and memories to last a lifetime—student mobility abroad offers a wealth of opportunities for students at University of Tokaj. Through the Pannónia Scholarship Programme and Erasmus+ mobility, our students can broaden their professional knowledge at higher education institutions in other countries, improve their language skills and discover new perspectives. Our students’ accounts show that studying abroad not only supports professional development but also provides experiences that help shape them as individuals.
New Experiences and International Friendships in Rijeka
Dóra Havas, a Tourism and Catering student, began her studies abroad at the University of Rijeka in Croatia. Even her first few days brought many new experiences.
“I’ve had so many new experiences during my first few days in Rijeka. The lecturers are kind and helpful, and there is so much to learn in class. I especially like that students have come from so many different countries, which has allowed me to discover many cultures and new perspectives,” Dóra said.
Alongside academic opportunities, social and cultural activities are also an important part of mobility. The university organises a range of events, excursions and hikes, giving students an excellent opportunity to explore Croatia’s natural and cultural attractions as well as pursue their studies.
From Italy to Poland – Another International Adventure
Anna Husz, a student in Early Childhood Education, is taking part in her second long-term mobility programme. Her previous experience abroad was so influential that she decided to embark on another adventure. This time, she chose Poland and is continuing her studies at the University of Warsaw.
Her decision was driven by a desire to discover new cultures, develop professionally and push her personal boundaries. At the Faculty of Education, Anna enrolled in courses she had not encountered before. She says the lecturers are helpful, welcoming towards international students and ready to offer support whenever questions arise.
The international student community has also led to new friendships: one of Anna’s closest friends, for example, is from Portugal. Her studies abroad are valuable from a professional perspective too, as she hopes to draw on her experiences in Poland in her thesis.
“Moving to a new country means stepping outside your comfort zone. I’m very grateful to have been given another opportunity to discover a new culture,” Anna emphasised. Despite the administrative challenges that can arise, she believes that students can return home from a mobility programme with positive experiences.
Her advice to future applicants is to ask questions without hesitation, choose courses that match their interests and not be afraid to meet new people. English-language skills can be particularly helpful when settling in and building international connections.
Studying in One’s Native Language in an International Environment – in Komárno
Dávid Goda, a Business Administration and Management student, chose J. Selye University in Slovakia. Alongside gaining international experience, it was important to him to deepen his professional knowledge in his native language while discovering a new higher education environment.
Dávid was immediately drawn to Komárno’s historic atmosphere, its proximity to the Danube and its easy-to-navigate city centre. He found the university modern, well equipped and welcoming. According to his account, the lecturers are approachable and helpful, and the programme places strong emphasis on practical learning.
His accommodation has also been a positive experience. Sirály Hall provides a tidy environment for studying and relaxing, and its location makes shops, university faculties and the city centre easy to reach.
Dávid’s experience also shows that valuable study-abroad opportunities are not limited to distant countries: Hungarian higher education institutions across the border can also offer students important professional and personal experiences.
More of Our Students Are Studying Abroad
Other students are also taking advantage of opportunities to gain international experience: three of them have successfully begun the autumn semester at the University of Cagliari in Italy. During their studies abroad, they can experience new teaching methods, a different cultural environment and international student communities.
The aim of mobility programmes is to help students gain knowledge, skills and connections that they can draw on in their future studies and professional careers.
