Learning mobility in Iceland with the Pannonia Scholarship Programme

Within the framework of the Pannonia Scholarship Programme mobility for educational purposes, Dr. Réka Matolcsi, research fellow and Dr. Csaba Oláh, associate professor visited the Agricultural University of Iceland in Hvanneyrin.

The leading professors of the host institution, Rósa Björk Jónsdóttir, Björn Þorsteinsson, Christian Schultze, Lukáš Pospíšil, presented the university and its campus, which was founded in 2005. They described the university's management, buildings, faculties, subjects taught and member institutions. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as vocational training. The institution has 600 students. They carry out teaching and research activities in the fields of agriculture and environmental sciences.

High quality teaching and research activities are carried out, particularly in the fields of animal husbandry, environmental sciences, water management and forestry. There is a strong emphasis on the conservation of land and animal resources, sustainability, geothermal energy and horse breeding.

The aim of the mobility was to develop opportunities for cooperation between the two universities and to discuss participation in joint research projects (applied and basic research). As a result, it was possible to identify common research topics that could open the way for future international cooperation between the two institutions.
