100 years of soil science

Researchers and lecturers from the University of Tokaj-Hegyalja participated in the International Union of Soil Science (IUSS) 100th anniversary world conference with more than 1600 participants.

The event also strengthened the links between different disciplines, policy makers, stakeholders, institutions and associations to effectively address the needs of civil society in the fields of agriculture, forestry, environment, urban planning, energy, education and other societal issues. The ceremony and conference took place on 19 May, followed by two intensive congress days until 21 May, with plenary and parallel scientific sessions. Each session brought together soil scientists and experts from other disciplines, focusing on lessons learned from past achievements and challenges for the future.

Péter Balling, assistant professor, presented his paper entitled "The effects of soil aeration in combination with a bio-stimulant in a vineyard in the Tokaj wine region" in the viticulture scientific session. After the presentation, there was an opportunity to discuss several issues, as there was a lively interest in the topic. The multi-day event provided an excellent opportunity to present the research results of the University of Tokaj and to establish professional contacts within the soil science community. The congress was inspired by the first Soil Science Conference held 100 years ago, which was commemorated at the closing ceremony.
