At the invitation of Prof. Dr. István Stumpf, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, the British Ambassador Paul Fox arrived at the University of Tokaj on 16 May 2023.
The Ambassador gave a very successful lecture at 11:00 a.m. in the University’s Banqueting Hall, entitled “British Engagement and the Future of Europe”. During the lecture, he said that it was a great pleasure for him to come to Sárospatak, where he met so many interested students. He mentioned that, as ambassador, the fate of Hungarians is important to him, both in England – as they live there as a group of people with many families – and in Hungary. With regard to the latter, he stressed the importance he attaches to the political decisions of our time regarding the war, in the hope of cooperation. He outlined the changes that have taken place in the UK after Brexit, that after the end of Erasmus UK, their plans include inspiring different universities to create possible scholarships for foreigners, including Hungarian students. There were many questions from the audience about the royal family, wine marketing, the war situation, but also about university studies, which the ambassador was happy to answer.
A memorable and great morning was for everyone!
