Sauska sparkling wines win world championship golds
Krisztián Sauska’s winery in Tokaj – he is also known as a member of our university’s board of trustees – reached a huge success at this year’s Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC), i.e. the world championship of champagnes and sparkling wines.
Around a thousand champagnes from twenty-one countries took part in the 11-day event, during which the fate of the gold and silver medals was decided by blind tasting. A total of 147 gold and 249 silver medals were won, of which Sauska Winery won 2 gold and one silver.
The success of Sauska Brut, which already won a gold medal last year, was not a surprise, but this time Sauska Brut Magnum also joined the ranks of the gold medal winners. Sauska Rosé Brut won a silver medal.
In the announcement of the winery, Krisztián Sauska said that he considers it important to continuously participate in international competitions, because it allows one to find out where we are. In addition, he emphasized that the results clearly show that Tokaj-Hegyalja has a place on the world champagne map, and this is not only a matter of great pride, but also a huge opportunity for the region.
The specialty of all three champagnes is that they use grapes harvested exclusively in Tokaj, and in addition to chardonnay and pinot noir, the presence of the indigenous Furmint variety is decisive in all three blends.
