On March 28, 2022, we commemorated the 430th anniversary of the birth of Jan Amos Comenius, an advanced-minded educator who spent four years in Sárospatak.
The anniversary was commemorated on March 31 by the Czech Center operating in Budapest, the Hungarian Comenius Society based in Sárospatak, and the University of Tokaj. The performance, composed by the Czech artist Pavel Sterec, updated selected ideas from Comenius and examined the role of non-profit education in today’s society.
The participants of the performance were the “silver age” inhabitants of Sárospatak and its surroundings: Mrs Anikó Feró Komolay, Mrs Zsuzsanna Koscsó, József Májer, Ms Erzsébet Tamás and Mrs Sarolta Király Tímári. The guests talked about learning and self-education as a value that does not necessarily benefit the labor market, it may not have social prestige, yet it has its own value and place in society and private life.
